SPECIAL OLYMPIC TORCH RUN TO GO THROUGH STAFFORD
Stafford , Va. The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office will once again join Area 11 Special Olympians and carry the Special Olympic Torch through Stafford County on Friday June 11.
Approximately 20 – 25 members of the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by Special Olympians from Area 11 will carry the Special Olympic Torch along Route 1 South the morning of Friday, June 11 starting at 5:45 am. The Torch will be handed off to members of the Fredericksburg Police Department at 8:30 am at the Route 1, Falmouth Bridge. The Torch will end its journey at the University of Richmond to start the 2010 Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games. It is expected that over 1,200 athletes will participate in this year’s event.
The Torch will be carried on Route 1 South using the right lane only, starting at 5:45 am at the county line on Friday June 11. The Torch will be carried over the Falmouth Bridge at 8:30 am and turned over to the Fredericksburg Police Department. While Route 1 will remain open during the Torch Run motorists are advised to be cautious when driving by the Torch Runners.
Citizens are encouraged to come out cheer on the Torch Runners as they travel along Route 1 South.
